My Thai

My boyfriend and I had lunch at My Thai in Chester Township on a recent Saturday. He's a big fan of Thai food, and I have been only adventurous enough to fall in love with Pad Thai. So with a buy-one-get-one coupon from the Our Town and All-Around Dining Directory, we decided to try the small restaurant on Mayfield Road (near Route 306).

We started with an appetizer of Karee Puff, described in the menu as "A crispy fried triangle pastry, filled with curry flavored chicken, snow pea and potato. Served with a side of cucumber salad." I was unsure about trying something outside of my comfort zone, but it was crispy and tasty. The cucumber salad was interesting but also very good, comprising cucumbers, red onions and some kind of sweet dressing. We both ordered Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp, and it was really, really good.

I'm looking forward to going back, even without a coupon, and maybe I'll venture to try something else on the menu. If it's all as good as the Pad Thai, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

McDonald's Frappe is what you should expect

I needed some caffeine when I was on the road yesterday and pulled into the first drive-through I came upon, which happened to be McDonald's. I was just going to get a Coke but decided it would be a good time to try the new Frappe, which appears to be the McD's version of the Starbucks Frappuccino. Regular readers of this blog will know I'm a fan of frozen coffee-type drinks, like Wendy's Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty and the Frozen Caramel drink from Panera.

I got the caramel Frappe, which came piled high with whip cream and caramel drizzle. I loved the first sip. But as I drank and the drink melted and the whip cream blended with the coffee-caramel mix, it started to taste just like McDonald's vanilla ice cream with caramel blended in. McDonald's ice cream is fine, but it wasn't what I was in the mood for.

Some might argue that Starbucks' Frappuccinos are just like milkshakes, but they taste more like blended coffee to me. The Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty is definitely ice cream, and Panera's Frozen Caramels are borderline.

I'll probably have a Frappe again, but it will be when I'm in the mood for a coffee-caramel milkshake.
